Montclar
It is a town where the peace and tranquillity permeate the streets, and a zone where the best of the best of past times has been preserved: a wide cultural and historical offer based on standing monuments of great value, which are the pride of the region and a great attraction to visitors.
The Romanesque is, with no doubt, the most representative art of this region; dozens of small churches are seen in the surroundings of Montclar, making the province of Lleida one of the most important monumental collections of Europe.
In Montclar, the Cannel of Urgell also had, and has, a lot of importance. This is shown by the presence of a tunnel of 6 kilometres of longitude. This tunnel was built by 1850 convicts, -working force that is not inexpensive, but totally free. Many of them died during the excavation, so many that a new graveyard had to be constructed in outskirts of the town to bury them.
